Weather Radios

It has been reported that Alabama has broken an 18-year-old state tornado record.

The Birmingham News reported that the 13 tornadoes that hit Alabama in the first 17 days of February beat out the 11 in February of 1990. According to a National Weather Service report, six tornadoes hit parts of Alabama a couple of weeks ago injuring 62 people. Seven tornadoes hit north Alabama on February 6th, killing five people.  Tornadoes could become more frequent as spring approaches.

Two of us purchased 20 weather alert radios for families in Alabama counties that had been hit recently by tornadoes and are not equipped with tornado sirens in their area.  These tornadoes hit in the middle of the night with little or no warning to the residents.

We delivered the radios to the Lawrence County AL EMA to be programmed and distributed.  The Lawrence County EMA had a program to distribute all radios donated first to the elderly on fixed incomes that were unable to afford them.  We placed a “Pay It Forward” information sheet with each radio.   Lawrence County was recovering from an EF-4 tornado that had recently caused significant damage in that area.

Thank you very much for allowing us the opportunity to do this for them.  Pay It Forward is a wonderful program, and they were so grateful for our donation.
